Utah Jazz: Seven potential under-the-radar free agent targets
Montrezl Harrell
Montrezl Harrell likely doesn’t make sense for the Jazz if they retain Derrick Favors, but if D-Favs decides to part ways, he could be a nice pickup. The six-foot-eight big man had a solid season with the LA Clippers and could be beneficial for the Jazz as an extra big known for his hustle and grit.
He’s improved offensively and closed out the season extremely well. It would be nice to see his rebounding numbers go up, but he has the potential to be a solid rebounder off the bench, while giving the Jazz some size if they needed to go big against opposing teams.
Harrell is a restricted free agent, meaning the Clippers would have to decide to pass on him in order for the Jazz or any other team to be able to get him. He’s more than likely to see a nice bump in pay from the $1.4 million he made this past season, but it remains to be seen what he’ll command on the open market. If it’s too much for LA to want to bite, it’s likely the Jazz won’t want to offer him too much either.
However, if the Clippers opt to move on and Harrell can be had at a fair price, I like the thought of adding him to a rugged Jazz roster that may need to add some size if Derrick Favors leaves the team.
