The injury curse of the Utah Jazz has real power. So much so, in fact, that it extends to a former Jazzman’s dog. Just ask Gordon Hayward.

Stifling defense, a penchant for overachieving and a ceaselessly biting injury bug — over the last three or four years, these are the things the Utah Jazz have been known for. However, it’s the latter that probably gets the most play. Honestly, injuries have probably cost the Jazz more wins than import retro video games have cost me money.

That’s a lot, and it’s been more of the same this season. Dante Exum missed 70’ish games with a shoulder injury. Knee problems cost Rudy Gobert 26 games. Also — Thabo Sefolosha is done for the year, Raul Neto has been in and out of the lineup, Joe Johnson was MIA for months when he was with the team and Ricky Rubio has been banged-up, too.

When former Jazzman Gordon Hayward broke his ankle in October, some joked that the Jazz’s injury curse had followed him to Boston. When it was revealed recently that C’s point-man Kyrie Irving would miss the rest of the season himself, you almost had to wonder whether there might be something to that.

Things got super weird this week, though.

Per the Instagram story of Hayward’s wife, Robyn, the couple’s German Shepherd, Bubbie, just suffered a torn ACL. Ouch.

It would seem that two members of the Hayward family are now on the mend.

Although he’s not expected to return this season, Hayward continues to make gains in his own recovery. In a blog post for his site GordonHayward20.life, the 2017 NBA All-Star was happy to report: “I’ve made some solid progress in my recovery the last couple months.”

Meanwhile, the Jazz are as healthy as they’ve been all season. Sefolosha is out and Rubio is questionable to play in the team’s next game against the LA Lakers, but everyone else is ready to roll.

Hopefully, Bubbie was the last to fall prey to the Jazz’s injury curse. The J-Notes crew wishes him well in his recovery.
