The Utah Jazz will reportedly be receiving a new classic jersey next season that will feature a unique but familiar color scheme.
When it was announced that Nike would be producing “Statement” and “City” edition jerseys for all teams in the NBA, many Utah Jazz fans had high hopes that one of those two uniforms would be a classic “purple mountain” jersey which the Jazz donned during much of their glory days. As we all know now, of course, such wasn’t the case as instead the Jazz have their gold statement jerseys and the highly unique gradient city jerseys.
Both of these were met with some controversy when first announced and although I feel like they’ve largely grown on most fans, I think it’s also fair to say that the purple uniforms have still been missed.
If you feel that you’re one of the fans that falls in that category (I know I am), then I have some good news for you. For the 2018-19 season, the Utah Jazz will indeed have purple classic jerseys.
This news comes from SportsLogos.net’s Conrad Burry who has accurately revealed several jerseys in the past, including Utah’s statement and city uniforms. Although he isn’t exactly certain about all the details of the Jazz uniform, he has confirmed that they will be purple. You can see his predictive renderings of them (as well of those of the other teams that will sport classic jerseys next season) via the link in the tweet below, and examples of the two jerseys can be found beneath that.
Of course, what some fans may find disappointing with these renderings is that they are obviously quite mountain-less, but for many that craved the nostalgic purple, these are certainly a step in the right direction. Furthermore, Burry admitted that the color is the only aspect he’s one hundred percent confident in, whereas he’s only about 50 percent confident about the wordmark and side/trim.
Could the final versions of Utah’s new classic uniform for 2018-19 actually end up having those beloved mountains? Only time will tell, but to be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t, instead adopting more the look of the Darrell Griffith jersey that Donovan Mitchell sported in the NBA Dunk Contest.
Either way, these new threads should definitely satisfy a highly sought-after look among Jazz fans and I imagine that they’ll be a hot item next season, particularly the #45 jersey.
Next: Utah Jazz finally getting help, but keep failing to capitalize
While we’ll have to wait until next season to see these uniforms in action, there’s still plenty to be excited about in Utah Jazz land right now. Utah has fought their way into the playoff mix by winning 23 of their last 28 games and will continue their playoff push on Friday at 7:00 PM MT as they host the Memphis Grizzlies.
