Fred VanVleet

Current Team: Toronto Raptors

Status: Unrestricted

What I like:

Fred VanVleet has been a major part of Toronto’s exceptional bench this season. Not only does he shoot nearly 40 percent from behind the arc, but he’s a gritty player that plays with a chip on his shoulder and simply looks to make his team better. He plays to his strengths and would be excellent as a backup point guard that gets the job done.

What I don’t like:

If the Jazz feel it necessary to add a guy like VanVleet, who will probably make more than the $1.3 million contract he’s on for this year, it probably means they feel less than confident in Dante Exum. With that being the case, I don’t know that VanVleet is exactly who the Jazz would go after. He’d likely be better than Raul Neto, but not to the extent where Utah would make it a priority to add him as a third-string point guard when he’s worthy of being the second one off the bench.

Final Thoughts:

I actually am a big fan of VanVleet and would be totally fine with the Jazz adding him. Based on their current roster construct, though, I don’t know that it makes all that much sense.
