Utah Jazz: J-Notes staffers evaluate every NBA trade deadline deal
By Ryan Aston
Wizards deal Sheldon Mac
TO HAWKS: Sheldon Mac, cash money. TO WIZARDS: Future second-round pick.
Thorpe: I really love this —

All joke aside, Mac is still recovering from an Achilles injury and Washington was looking to shed salary. Reports have come out that Mac and John Wall are friends. Sending away a player well-liked by your star PG and keeping a locker room cancer like Marcin Gortat might not send the best message.
Aston: This move was strictly financial for the Wizards, who were in a tough spot after signing Otto Porter to a max deal over the summer. If I was a Wiz fan, I might be wondering if the price tag is worth it. To be up against the tax, but a rung below the contenders in your conference isn’t a great place to be.
Padmore: Washington trades Sheldon Mac, who is out for the season, and get a second-round pick in return. Atlanta simply waived Mac afterwards, which makes me believe Washington wins this one.
Keeffer: The pick involved here is heavily protected and probably won’t convey. The Hawks were essentially paid off to clean Washington’s books up a bit.
Woodcox: Hawks looking for the revival of Shelvin Mack by acquiring the similarly named Sheldon Mac!
