Utah Jazz: Relive Slam Dunk champ Donovan Mitchell’s epic jams
By Ryan Aston
The Tomahawk Lob
With Larry Nance coming hard, Mitchell needed something big to tip-off the final round and put the pressure on. He did so by powering down a tomahawk jam off a backboard oop that was poetry in motion.
It was the kind of slam that would have been impressive from anyone. That said, the way Mitchell launched his 6-foot-3 frame into the stratosphere, caught the ball one-handed off the bounce with his spider arm and propelled it from his back through the hoop in one fell swoop was low-key one of the best dunks you’ll ever see.
What resulted was a perfect 50 from the judges and a notice to Nance that he was going to have to take the Dunk Contest from the young Jazzman if he truly wanted it.
