Spencer Dinwiddie

If the Jazz were able to make a move for Spencer Dinwiddie, I would be absolutely ecstatic. To me, this is the most realistic home run trade option of the bunch that I’ve mentioned so far (and even then, it’s not overly realistic unfortunately). Dinwiddie has had an incredible season, is on a ridiculously cheap contract and has plenty of room to improve. His three-point shooting has gone down since the beginning of the season, but as an affordable playmaker off the bench, he could be an awesome asset.

And while one might wonder why the Nets would part with him, Lowe brought up a pretty good point. Namely, Dinwiddie’s trade value may never get higher due not only to his play this season but also due to the friendly nature of his contract that will be in effect for one more year after this one. And if the Nets are truly aiming to improve, they may try to get somewhat of a king’s ransom for him while they can.

Then again, while Dinwiddie has had an impressive season thus far, I’m not sure he’s worthy of anything near a king’s ransom, even a watered down one. Lowe mentioned that the Nets would likely look for a first-round pick in exchange for Dinwiddie, and I can’t see Utah coming anywhere near giving that up.

Still, I like his fit on this Jazz team, so if there’s some other exchange that can be worked out, I’d be all for it. He would improve Utah’s backcourt depth while helping them maintain financial flexibility in a big way for the summer of 2018. There may not be a realistic way to get this one done, but Dennis Lindsey should certainly at least be inquiring about the young Nets guard.
