Patrick McCaw

Patrick McCaw has had some moments of brilliance with the Golden State Warriors, but that could very well be more due to the exceptional players drawing all the attention around him than because of his true value. Not only that, but in many ways he has regressed significantly this season, most notably in his three-point shooting which is down to 24.6 percent.

Lowe mentioned that the Warriors could look to move McCaw, among others, to help bolster their shaky bench, and the 22-year-old could certainly be of interest as a potential 3-and-D guy. On the other hand, with his numbers down this year, teams such as the Jazz might be hesitant to give anything of value up for him, especially if it meant helping the defending champs, who are far from in need of additional help.

I think that McCaw could very well still be a solid rotational player in the NBA, but one of the motivating factors behind moving him may have originally been out of fear of not being able to afford him in free agency. However, I tend to agree with Lowe’s sentiment that McCaw’s recent shoddy play may very well make teams hesitant to offer him much.

Therefore, if the Warriors really want him, they could probably just keep him rather than try to trade him for very little in return. I wouldn’t complain if the Jazz saw promise in McCaw and dealt for him for an expiring contract or perhaps a second-round pick, but even that would be questionable given his play of late, and I have a hard time believing any deal for him would move the needle much at all for either party.

I could be wrong, but my guess is that the Warriors simply stand pat at the deadline.
