Donovan Mitchell – Luke Skywalker

Amidst the turbulent offseason that the Utah Jazz underwent that saw them lose their All-Star in Gordon Hayward, a New Hope arose for the Utah Jazz in the 13th overall draft pick Donovan Mitchell. Hopes were high for Donovan during the preseason that he could blossom into Utah’s next young star, much like hopes were high for a young Luke Skywalker one day becoming a Jedi when he departed on the Millennium Falcon from the Mos Eisley Cantina.

Mitchell was quickly thrust into a starting role early in the season due to Rodney Hood injuries, much like Luke was forced to instantly become the focal point of the Rebel Alliance shortly after the passing of his mentor Obi-Wan. It wasn’t exactly a memorable start for Mitchell as he struggled to find his shot, but he’s come a long way from his days of bullseyeing womp rats in his T-16 back home.

When Darth Vay-ward left the Jazz for good, Mitchell was viewed as the new heir to the Jazz franchise. He’s looked much more like the Luke that blew up the first Death Star of late. Only time will tell if Mitchell eventually becomes the super pilot, Rancor-slaying, master Jedi from Episode VI.

But he certainly has that potential and he’s without a doubt Utah’s New Hope. The force is strong with young Master Spida-walker.
