Jonas Jerebko – Poe Dameron

There was a considerable amount of excitement about Jonas Jerebko joining the Utah Jazz this offseason. After all, he was a high-energy veteran who’d played on some successful teams and he also was a Jazz fan as a kid and therefore expressed significant excitement about joining his newfound Utah team.

Unfortunately, much to several fans’ surprise, once the season got underway, Jerebko found himself immediately tied to the bench and out of the Jazz’s rotation. That situation was much akin to that of Poe Dameron. In the opening scene of Episode VII, we could all tell that Poe was a pretty awesome guy, heck, he’s the best pilot in the Resistance after all.

But before he had any sort of chance to prove his worth, he instead found himself a captive to Kylo Ren and the First Order, much like Jerebko was a captive to the bench. As soon as he was freed from his prison though, Poe instantly went ham, flying a Tie Fighter like a boss, miraculously surviving a crash and eventually being the key pilot in the destruction of Starkiller Base. Those are some mighty accomplishments.

While I wouldn’t go so far as to say that Jerebko’s reached Starkiller Base destruction levels yet, there’s no questioning that he’s been awesome since getting into the rotation and has proved himself to be highly capable just like Poe. As continued opportunities abound, there’s no telling just what kind of impact Jonas may have on his Jazz team.
