Utah Jazz: Assigning a Star Wars character to each Jazzman
Derrick Favors – C-3PO
You gotta feel for C-3PO. He’s often ignored and rebuked by his Star Wars comrades and seemingly can’t seem to do anything right in their eyes. However, when you stop and think about it, he’s actually quite useful. I mean, he is fluent in over six million forms of communication for crying out loud! And if it weren’t for him, all of the heroes would have been devoured as part of an Ewok feast. Seriously, come on! Give the guy some love!
In similar fashion, I feel like sometimes Derrick Favors is viewed by Jazz fans as expendable. Several have called for him to be traded and have prematurely given up on him. In fact, he’s even been referred to as the forgotten man. At one point he stated, “I’m pretty much used to it. The whole time I’ve been here has been like that. It seems like everybody seems to forget about me all the time.”
Doesn’t that sound pretty C-3POish to you? Often forgotten, sometimes ignored, usually taken for granted, but in reality, he’s an important part to the mission’s success.
And of late Favors has certainly looked that way as well. He had a tough year last year with injuries (much like when C-3PO ran into Imperial Stormtroopers on Cloud City and ended up in the possession of the Ugnaughts), but he’s played some of the best ball of his career in recent outings.
He looks sharp on both ends of the floor and just like the Star Wars heroes desperately needed C-3PO on the forest moon of Endor, the Jazz may very well need the formerly forgotten Derrick Favors if they’re to find success and return to the playoffs this year.
