Outside of their loss to the Rockets, Utah’s road loss to the LA Clippers may be the worst loss of the season. Strangely, the team’s poor effort early laid the groundwork for one of the season’s best moments so far.

With the Jazz behind in a big, bad way throughout the contest, Jazz coach Quin Snyder was prompted to throw in the towel early in the fourth quarter. In doing so, he pulled his starters and emptied the bench, including rookie guard Donovan Mitchell.

Mitchell subsequently went bananas.

With his team down by 21 points in the final carom, Mitchell scored 11 straight points and, eventually, helped the Jazz cut the lead to seven, forcing Snyder to rethink his concession.

Ultimately, the Jazz still lost the game, but Mitchell finished with 19 points and nearly snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in a game that his own coach had already given up on.
