Prediction – Jazz 102, Nuggets 96

This is going to be a great early test for the Jazz and will be far from an easy victory. However, I believe Denver’s subpar defense, questionable backcourt and lackluster second unit will prove well within Utah’s ability to contain. And given that last year in this series, the team that won scored 100+ points while the losing team failed to do so, I feel that a tightly contested 102-96 victory for the Jazz, just like I predicted earlier this week, will be just about right on point.

Utah’s defense is going to have its work cut out for it right from the start and their offense will need to prove that it can find ways to score, especially when they have opportunities in transition against a team known for turning over the ball. If they’re able to do so, then there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to come out on top.

Given that tonight’s contest is the first of the year for both teams, it’s somewhat difficult to know what to expect. However, one thing is certain, both squads have plenty to prove and know that each and every game could very well alter their playoff hopes.

Therefore, don’t be surprised to see a highly competitive contest pitting an elite offense against an elite defense in which whatever team can exceed expectations on the end of the floor that is a supposed weakness for them eventually comes away victorious.
