Utah Jazz: Awards Predictions for the 2017-18 season
By John Keeffer
With the season bearing down upon us, we are predicting award winners and top performers for the 2017-18 Utah Jazz season!
In the blink of an eye, four months have flown by and the NBA season is almost upon us! A lot has changed across the NBA landscape, and fans everywhere are excited to get a first look at their new teams.
The Utah Jazz will open pre-season play on October 2nd against an Australian league team, the Sydney Kings. For Jazz fans, it feels like we are going to be seeing a completely different team. Many of the faces are familiar, but with the departures of Hayward and Hill, the hierarchy of the team is going to be drastically changed.
This should be an exciting season, as many players on this team may be able to compete for some end of season NBA hardware. Gobert should be considered a front runner for the Defensive Player of the Year award, and a dark horse for league MVP. An increased role for Rodney Hood could place him in the running for the Most Improved Player award. Depending on how large a role Donovan Mitchell is given, he could also put up a real case for Rookie of the Year honors, and is sure to take home the monthly award from time to time.
The Jazz tend to be overlooked when it comes to the major end of season awards. So like my old High School basketball team, I am going to be handing out my own awards within the Jazz team. We’ll predict who will be our Most Valuable Player, who’s the most improved, Offensive Player of the Year, comeback player of the year, and Defensive Player of the Year!
Without further ado, let’s get’s into it!
