Can Joe Johnson continue to outlast Father Time?
Although Joe Johnson saw a major drop in points and minutes last season, the Utah Jazz were very strategic about how they utilized him so that they could reserve him for the times when the team needed him most. And without a doubt, Iso Joe came up big when it was most critical.
He had some of his greatest success when playing the four and it’s likely that Utah will continue to use him as such. Although on several occasions he looked as spry and effective as ever this past season, one has to think that he will eventually slow down. After all, he is 36 years old and has logged 16 effective years in the NBA.
However, Utah will definitely need him to continue to be a consistent contributor, so seeing how well he’s able to produce despite being in the twilight of his career will be fun to keep tabs on. Joe Johnson was a reliable and effective player that quickly became a fan favorite last season, particularly because of his playoff performances, and he’s sure to provide many more similar moments in 2017-18.
Aside from staving off Father Time and producing quality minutes for the Jazz, Johnson was an incredible mentor and locker room presence last season and at the very least he should definitely continue to do that. Nevertheless, I know I speak for all of Jazz Nation when I say that he very well ought to provide much, much more.
