Rudy Gay

Although it would be hard to see Rudy Gay exercising his player option on a brand new contract with the San Antonio Spurs, if he has a breakout year this season and suddenly feels that he merits a larger contract, he could be a player of interest for the Jazz. He was supposedly a fallback plan to replace the void left by Gordon Hayward, but instead the Spurs were able to snatch him up.

Gay’s ability to score in bunches while playing both the three and the four would be an extremely valuable addition to a Jazz team that is seeking versatile players and needs help on offense. It will be interesting to see how Gay bounces back from his Achilles injury, but if he’s able to score as he did prior to the injury, he should be a very highly coveted free agent next summer if he opts to test the market.
