Michigan sophomore D.J. Wilson already was involved in a bit of odd news relating to the Utah Jazz. Following his workout with the team, a rumor surfaced that the Utah Jazz had offered him a guarantee that they would indeed draft him if available in the first round. However, a few days later, Utah Jazz vice president of player personnel Walt Perrin denied that any such guarantee was given.

Whatever the case, Wilson certainly deserves consideration as one of Utah’s selections and therefore it isn’t surprising that three of our The J Notes crew selected him as such. He is built very well physically for the NBA and has all the makings of a dangerous stretch-four. He shot 63.1 percent from the field last season in Michigan while going a solid 37.3 percent from deep on nearly three attempts per game.

The reason his field goal percentage was so high despite being a deep-ball threat is that Wilson is already an elite finisher. If the Jazz are hoping for security at the power forward position somewhere down the road, Wilson could very well be an excellent option for them with one of their first round picks. Some mock drafts have Wilson falling right into Utah’s range while others have him going sooner, making it anybody’s guess whether he’ll be available or not.
