Washington Wizards – Ian Mahinmi

I recently mentioned Ian Mahinmi as a player that the Jazz should consider with some amount of caution. Though he’s hardly seen the floor this season due to lingering knee issues, he’s finally back in action and if he can regain some semblance of the rim protector and finisher that he was last season, he would be excellent off the bench for the Jazz.

Mahinmi was an under the radar beast for Indiana last year as he proved capable of not only playing staunch defense, but also running the floor well and providing a lift offensively. His stat line of 9.3 points and 7.1 rebounds doesn’t exactly jump out, but more than anything his ability to alter shots and his constant hustle made him a vital piece of that Pacers team.

If that version of Mahinmi still exists, he would be an excellent backup center behind Rudy Gobert. Not to mention, he is a Frenchman himself, so he would likely enjoy some unique chemistry with him and Boris Diaw.

Of course it’s likely that the Jazz wouldn’t feel comfortable trading for Mahinmi given his injury struggles this season that have prevented him from seeing the court much this season. If such were the case, Kelly Oubre Jr. is another interesting prospect. Though he needs to work on his shooting, he’s extremely athletic and still has a great deal of untapped potential.

Honorable Mention – Kelly Oubre Jr.
