Dante Exum
Just when Exum was starting to look like a real impact player for the Jazz in the latter part of 2014-15, he tore his ACL over the offseason and missed the entirety of last year. Yet in some ways, Exum will now benefit from being able to play without the pressure of extreme expectations.
Truthfully, the Jazz should be pleased if Exum retains his elite defensive prowess and if he is able to become a more reliable shooter. It might not be much, but with George Hill leading the charge at point and Shelvin Mack, who has proven capable, available among the reserves, seeing positive strides out of Exum and potential for the future would be more than satisfying.
However, one can’t help but hope that he truly breaks out this year. Selecting Exum in the draft came with whispers of superstar potential, unprecedented athleticism and breathtaking abilities. As Exum grows and adjusts to the NBA game, it shouldn’t be long before we discover whether he can become that player that was described or if he was simply over-hyped.
Assuming he stays healthy, 2015-16 should be a great proving ground for Exum to show that he is an up-and-coming star. Otherwise, he may find himself in trouble in what has now suddenly become a very deep position for the Jazz.
Best Case Scenario: Breaks out and begins to truly show superstar potential and elite athleticism
Worst Case Scenario: Has a less than memorable year and falls down the depth chart behind Shelvin Mack
Next: Alec Burks
