2. Trey Lyles – Utah Jazz
Drafted: 12th pick in 2015 Draft
Last season stats: 6.1 points, 3.7 rebounds per game on 44% shooting and 38% shooting from three-point range for the Jazz
If we learned anything from watching Trey Lyles play this season, it’s that he can get buckets. Lyles was unfairly thrust into the starting lineup early in his career due to injuries to Favors and Gobert. He didn’t have the best start to the season, but the last couple months he finished strong and really stretched the floor with his outside shot.
The big area that the coaching staff will be expecting Lyles to perform is defense and rebounding. Lyles struggled last season to get stops on the defensive end and he didn’t get as many rebounds as you would expect from a 6’10” forward. The quickest way to show the coaching staff that he deserves the most minutes off the bench is by showing an improvement on the defensive end.
Lyles will be the go to scorer for the Jazz during the summer league. He may only play in a couple of games like Exum and Rodney Hood did last summer, but whenever he is playing he’ll be looking to prove that he can be a go-to scorer in this league.
