1) Defense

As evidenced by the 61-point effort of Portland’s backcourt duo of Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum, the Jazz defense needs help containing opposing point guards. Mack should help the team in this department.

More specifically, his size and strength–Mack checks in at six-foot-three and 203 pounds–allows him to body up on bigger guards and hold his own. Coach Snyder talked about this in his comments to the media about the trade for Mack–

"“You know, when Jrue Holiday is backing us down, that’s a better matchup for Shelvin than it is for Raul and Trey.”"

With less than 30 games remaining and the Jazz fighting for a spot in the playoffs, Mack’s defensive versatility will pay dividends as the team attempts to hold court with teams like the Blazers, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks
