5. Brandan Wright, Phoenix Suns
After beginning the season with the Dallas Mavericks, Brandan Wright was moved to the Celtics in the Rajon Rondo trade, then shipped to the Phoenix Suns for a first round draft pick. The former No. 8 overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft has bounced around the league, but offers great value to any team he’s with.
Of players having participated in at least 30 games this season, Wright ranks third in the league in true shooting percentage, trailing only Kyle Korver and Tyson Chandler. There’s something to be said for players who can convert at such a high rate, even if it is dependent on other players’ action.
Defensively, Wright is underrated. In 2014-15, opposing players have shot 2.7-percent lower from the field within 10 feet of the basket when guarded by Wright. Bring that range to within six feet of the hoop and the difference is 3.7-percent. Will he lock people down? Generally not, but as a third big Wright holds value on both sides of the ball.
