This trade with the New York Knicks is an interesting one.  Tim Hardaway Jr, like Trey Burke, is a Michigan Wolverine.  They together led the team to the finals in the NCAA tournament of 2013.  Tim Hardaway Jr had decent rookie season, but similar to Trey Burke, has struggled in his second year in the NBA.  Hardaway Jr. has the physical tools to be a good defender.  However, he is not being taught how to properly use those tools during this hapless season of the Knicks.

He was a great shooter in his rookie season, and though his shooting percentages have dropped this year, he is still shooting 34.0% from three.  Hardaway Jr would be a good player to start at SG this year, and help provide a much needed scoring punch off them bench when Burks and Hood are healthy again.

Shane Larkin is a name Jazz fans may remember.  He was rumored by many to be a player that the Utah Jazz liked in the 2013 draft.  He is a 5’11” point guard out of Miami.  He is a very quick guard and a fairly good shooter.  Shane would fill in as Utah’s backup point guard.  When you think of Larkin, think of a lesser version of J.J. Barea.

The Knicks are currently sitting on the second worst record in the NBA.  Their best chance at improving is to tank the year and get the top pick.  New York is in need of a good point guard prospect and Burke could be that for them.  Burke has a way with the media, and New York would love him.

"“To some extent, trading Tim Hardaway Jr. for Trey Burke is a lateral move. Both players have struggled in their second season and neither have been the proverbial game-changer. If this deal is to get done, the Knicks would likely ask for the inclusion of a second-round pick. Hardaway Jr. still has value as a shooter, but Burke and a second-round draft pick—something NYK used to land Cleanthony Early in 2014—would be attractive given Burke’s play making potential.”"

Maxwell said “Burke has a little Derek Fisher in him”.  So what better situation for him to be in with Fisher as his coach?  The Jazz may need to include a second round pick in the trade.
