Why now is the best time to bring Jimmer Fredette back to Utah (via Purpleandblues.com)

With the Utah Jazz’s off season here and thoughts have shifted from the season to the NBA Draft and NBA Free Agency, it’s time that we start taking a look at some possible free agents that might be a good fit with the Jazz. Why not start out with the player that the majority of Jazz nation would love to see in a Jazz uniform?

Jimmer Fredette will be an unrestricted free agent this summer after he wrapped up his short stint with the Chicago Bulls, after they were eliminated from the NBA Playoffs by the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. Fredette was signed by the Bulls midway through this season after he was bought out of his contract with the Sacramento Kings, the team that drafted him back in 2011.

Fredette has had quite a rocky road in the NBA since getting drafted. The former national college player of the year out of Brigham Young University hasn’t really gotten the chance to show what he can do in the NBA. This season, Fredette only averaged 5.6 points per game, 1.1 rebounds per game, and 1.3 assists per game. (Continue reading here)

2013-14 Utah Jazz by the numbers : Team edition (via Purpleandblues.com)

Not only am I big Utah Jazz fan, but I’m also an accountant. I work with numbers all the time, and I love it. As a sports fan I love stats and putting things about the teams I follow in the context of numbers. This is part one of a series where I will review the 2013-14 Utah Jazz season and refer to a lot of interesting stats and numbers. Today’s post will be about the team as a whole, while future posts will focus more on individual players. Unless otherwise noted, this information was generally found at Basketball-Reference, one of my very favorite sites.

Players who appeared in at least one game for the Jazz in 2013-14: 17

Players on the roster at the end of the season that never appeared in a game: 1 (Erik Murphy)

Players on the roster at the end of the season that weren’t on the roster for the season opener: 3 (Diante Garrett, Malcolm Thomas, and Erik Murphy)

Rookies on the Jazz at the end of the season: 4 (Rudy Gobert, Ian Clark, Trey Burke, and Erik Murphy) (Continue reading here)

Important dates for Jazz fans to remember (via Purpleandblues.com)

The 2013-14 season is over which means the 2014-15 season is underway.  The Utah Jazz have some really important dates to coming up and every fan will want to put on their calenders these dates to stay on top of what the Utah Jazz are doing.

May 20th is probably the biggest of those dates as it will decide where the Utah Jazz end up picking which could be anywhere from 1-7.  The combine will be fun to watch and will be shown on NBA TV and it’ll be the first chance to really see Dante Exum not on a YouTube video. (Continue reading here)

Jeremy Evans trajectory is headed upward (via SaltLakeTribune.com)

A bigger upper body. An improved mid-range jumper. More confidence. More minutes.

That’s the recipe for a player like Jeremy Evans to continue debunking a myth and shaking a reputation.

Before this past season, Evans was more Utah Jazz sideshow than NBA talent. At least that was the narrative. He was looked upon as nothing but a dunker, a 6-foot-9 forward who happened to be able to run and jump.

Evans would never say it directly — he’s too polite — but the tag bothered him. He worked hard to make it out of the obscurity of Western Kentucky to the league, and from the league to Utah’s actual playing rotation — which he finally broke through and accomplished during 2012-13. (Continue reading here)

Jazz may be gone, but NBA drama isn’t (via SaltLakeTribune.com)

So, it’s been a while.

EnergySolutions Arena is strangely dark, again, in early May.

The Jazz, who traditionally punctuated so many of their seasons with some kind of playoff appearance, have gone without now since 2012. While reflections of that last postseason experience aren’t exactly fond for anyone in Utah — the Jazz were swept by San Antonio in the first round — it’s easy to watch what’s going on at present and feel a little empty.

Not that getting bounced from the playoffs for three consecutive years by the Lakers before missing out entirely in 2011 was a laugh a minute, and not that the Jazz should abandon their rebuilding plan for mere short-term pleasure, but the early stages of the 2014 playoffs have been a rocket to ride for the teams and fans involved, and even for those simply looking in, those who have little rooting interest one way or the other. Anybody around here watching this stuff? (Continue reading here)

2014 NBA Mock Draft: Definitive guide to how round one will play out (via BleacherReport.com)

The playoffs are the current focus of several NBA squads, but the 2014 NBA draft is what the Association’s less talented teams are now shifting their attention to.

The draft is set to take place on June 26, and there is still a lot of time for teams to make decisions on their top needs and most coveted prospects. The teams selecting at the top will make no-brainer decisions, but it’ll be the picks outside of the lottery that require a bit more time and thinking.

It’s not all that often that young players are capable of stepping into prominent roles right away, but there are a few players in this draft who have the potential to do so. But after they go off the board, who will follow?

Here’s how Round 1 of the 2014 NBA draft will shape up. (Continue reading here)
