Morning Jazz 04-19-14

It has only been a couple days, but I’m starting to think that this is going to be a long, long season. I already am wishing that Jazz basketball was back on. Until then, the playoffs start today and that will have to hold me over for a little while. As far as missing the Jazz goes, yesterday there was a lot of new Jazz news to keep fans going.

At locker room clean out on Thursday, Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey told the media that the Jazz weren’t going to make any emotional decisions regarding the future of head coach Tyrone Corbin. He also added that the decision would come in “short order”. As of last night, no decision has been made on Corbin, however, that didn’t stop the rumors from happening. The big news yesterday came from Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News, who tweeted out on his personal account that Jazz executives were ready to “pull the cord on Corbin and go for a new coach.” The rumors were shut down when Jazz president, Randy Rigby, told Jazz media that the reports were “not accurate”. Corbin’s agent also confirmed that a decision had not been made yet. The Jazz were rumored to be making some kind of a decision by this weekend, but the decision will come in due time and when Jazz management feels like they are ready to make the right decision. A lot of fans have expressed a lot of opinions about Corbin this season. It seems as though the fan base is pretty split on the kind of job he did this season. Some fans were calling for his job early in the season, and other fans were buying into the process and respected Corbin for his dedication. However, after the rumors of Corbin’s coaching gig being done, and hearing Jazz management deny those rumors, the head coaching job for the Utah Jazz is still a mystery for next season. There could be quite a few different candidates if and when the job becomes available. Who will be the Jazz’s head coach options for next season? Yesterday, the NBA held their Board of Governors meeting in New York where the NBA owners and the NBA’s front office got together to discuss various topics. After the meeting, there was one more bit of business to take care of. There were teams that finished the season tied with the same record, and to break those ties, there was a coin flip to determine the draft order heading into the lottery. The Jazz were among a few of those teams, as they tied record wise this season with the Boston Celtics. The Jazz won the coin flip over the Celtics and will head to the NBA Draft Lottery on May 20th in the fourth position. The lottery will end up determining the final order for the draft, but for now, the Jazz are in a good position. (via Purpleandblues.com)
