Marvin Williams

Like RJ, Marvin Williams has been a nice surprise. I was talking with my friend the other day who pretty much summed it up best when he said, “Marvin must have really been hurt last year because he sucked.” Indeed he did suck. However, this season he has shown what he can do when he is healthy.

9.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game is a nice stat line for Marvin, but the thing that he has brought to the starting lineup has been 3 point shooting, going 41% from 3.

The move that Corbin made when he inserted Marvin into the starting lineup to play a “stretch 4” has really payed off. Before the move, Marvin had come off the bench in 8 games. In those 8 games the Jazz were 1-7. Since then, Marvin has started in 15 games, with the Jazz going 8-7 in those games, (prior to Jazz-Bobcats game).

The thing with Marvin, as was with RJ, he has not been consistent with his scoring. He has though, played good defense even if his offense hasn’t quite been there. He has been a nice surprise for the team and has played well. I actually hope that if he can keep playing as well as he has, that the Jazz will re-sign him in the off-season.
