28 : San Antonio Spurs select Erick Green, PG, Virginia Tech
If I was the GM for the Spurs, I would probably be looking at either a backup shooting guard or small forward, but I am not the Spurs GM and according to Marc Stein on Twitter last night, the Spurs have supposedly given a promise to Green that they will select him at 28.
Green is an intriguing point guard. 2 seasons ago, he only averaged 4 ppg. However, last season, after putting the work in the gym, he upped his ppg average to over 25 a game. His assists also went up and his turnovers went down. He has no left hand though. When he goes to the basket, he likes to finish with the right. That might hurt him a little bit, but the Spurs seem to see something in him that they like and with Tony Parker aging a bit, it’d be nice to bring in his successor now.
